Home of the Free, Because of the Brave

Home of the Free, Because of the Brave

…And I’m proud to be an American
Where at least I know I’m free
And I won’t forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I gladly stand up
Next to you and defend her still today
Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land
God bless the USA….
The Lyrics by Lee Greenwood in the song “God Bless the USA” express my love for this country wonderfully. Today is Memorial Day in the United States of America. A day to Honor those who have served, and to Remember those that have given their lives in service to this great country. As Americans, we are greatly blessed with many freedoms that other countries are not able to reap. All because of those who have served on our behalf, to fight and protect for what they believed in.
I’d like to thank all those that have served our country, whether I know them or not. I pray for each and everyone and for their families. It is hard to share your service between your family and your country. So I am also thankful for the families of those who have served this country. Thank you for giving up your time with your loved ones so that they can help keep our freedoms that we enjoy as Americans.
I have so many in my life that have served honorably in the military. And I am so proud of each and everyone. I have ancestors who have fought and died in service to my country. I have retired veteran family members who are still able to tell their stories of their service. I have family still active in the military. And I have family who I have known, loved, and lost to their service to this country. With love and remembrance in my heart, again I say, Thank you.
A very special thanks to my brother-in-law. Sergeant Douglas E. Bascom, who died as a hero in the Marine Corps.
